30+ Ways to Celebrate Canada Day 2017

Jun 27, 2017

This year Canada is turning 150 and there are celebrations going on all over the country and right here in our own backyard. Whether you just want to take in a few of the wonderful shops, markets, farms, wineries or more on the Circle Farm Tour or take advantage of the celebrations that each of the 5 areas are offering, you’ll be sure to have a great time!

Agassiz / Harrison Mills

One place that’s always fun to visit is Kilby Historic Site and July 1st they celebrate Dominion Day & Community Appreciation Day with fully guided tours that give you a chance to hear the story of Harrison Mills & the Kilby Family. Enjoy watching the dancers, Harrison Highlanders, and stay for activities and a BBQ.

Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs are each having Canada Day celebrations all day and it's the perfect opportunity to visit some of the Agassiz/Harrison Mills Circle Farm Tour stops, like The Back Porch, Muddy Waters Cafe, or The Farm House Natural Cheeses.

Along with the 6 wineries on the Abbotsford Circle Farm Tour, there are many fun spots to spend Canada’s birthday.  Plan a visit to the EcodairyMaan Farms, or Birchwood Dairy to visit with the animals, try some ice cream, or romp through strawberry fields.

The City of Abbotsford is having their festivities at Exhibition Park, where you'll find entertainment, activities, food trucks and fireworks at 10pm.

A stop at Old Yale Brewery is a perfect way to celebrate Canada Day, or try visiting some of the local shops and markets like Anita’s Organic Mill, The Local Harvest Market, Smits & Co.w Cheese, or Hofstede’s Country Barn. Minter Country Garden or Little Mountain Garden Centre will satisfy your green thumb and planting something new in the garden is a great way to celebrate Canada's birthday!

There will be Canada Day celebrations at Townsend Park starting at 8am with pancakes in the morning and fireworks kicking off at 10pm. That Local Market will be at Townsend Park on Canada day for your farmers market shopping.

The Langley Circle Farm Tour has a variety of award-winning wineries, such as Chaberton, Vista D’oro, Backyard, Township 7, Festina Lente, Glass House, and Krause Estate Winery. There’s Fraser Valley Cider and Roots & Wings Distillery if you'd rather sip on cider and beer, and many other great restaurants, shops, markets, and farms. Fort Langley National Historic Site has activities all day long with so much to see and do that the kids will be worn out by the time you head

Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows

The Canada Day celebrations for Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows take place in Memorial Peace Park from 10am until 7pm and there’ll be vendors, food, entertainment and loads of fun.  The Haney Farmers Market will run from 10 until 3 and it's the perfect time to visit the Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows Circle Farm Tour stops such as  Golden Ears Cheesecrafters, Kingfishers Bar and Grill and Big Feast Bistro.  Amsterdam Garden Centre is another wonderful spot to visit if you love to garden or want to get one started.  They have classes throughout the year for kids and adults, so celebrate Canada's 150th by getting your hands dirty and planting something new!
