Christmas Markets and Ideas for Shopping Local this Holiday Season

Nov 21, 2017

With Christmas only five weeks away, now is the perfect time to start your planning and shopping.  We have some wonderful ways to escape the crowds at the mall and support local businesses, garden centres, restaurants, and family farms this holiday season, all while tracking down some beautiful gifts and decorations.  Click on any of the family businesses mentioned below to learn more about them and their holiday hours.

Our local nurseries and garden centres, such as Amsterdam Garden Centre, Tanglebank Gardens, Cedar Rim Nursery, Minter Country Gardens, and Little Mountain Garden Centre are full of festive plants and decor to fill your home, with several of them offering Christmas workshops.

Krause Berry Farm & Estate Winery transforms their market into a magical winter wonderland this time of year and Maan Farms Market & Estate Winery will hold their annual Christmas Market for two weekends this year, November 25 & 26 and December 2 & 3.

Take part in the Chilliwack Christmas Craft Crawl, November 23 to 26, which includes three of our Circle Farm Tour members, Chilliwack River Valley Natural Honey, New Moon Tea Co. and Rustic Soap Co. The Back Porch, located at 6116 Golf Road in Agassiz has wonderful pottery for sale along with delicious, fresh roasted coffee.

Keep your family warm with a beautiful Alpaca fleece sweater or cozy socks from Kensington Prairie Farm in Langley, where they also sell gloves, scarves, and yarn for those knitters in your life.

There are 15 wineries on the Circle Farm Tour where you can get help from local vintners in choosing the perfect wine for your Christmas party or special dinner.  Prefer cider or beer? Fraser Valley Cider, Roots & Wings Distillery, and Old Yale Brewing have you covered, and all three are a great place to meet up with friends during the busy shopping season.

Don’t forget to stock up on the sinfully delicious butter crunch from The Milsean Shoppe in Langley and artisanal cheeses from the many cheesecrafters throughout the Fraser Valley and Agassiz. Golden Ears Cheesecrafters, Milner Valley Cheese, Smits & Co.w Farm Cheese, Happy Days Dairies, Goat’s Pride Dairy, Birchwood Dairy Farm and The Farm House Natural Cheeses have endless ideas for fondues, cheese plates, and all types of meal ideas to keep your guests smiling the entire month long!

When you’re ready to pick out that Christmas turkey, stop by family-owned JD Farms Specialty Turkey in Langley, Rockweld Farm in Abbotsford, or The Farm Store at Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry. Christmas hams, local veggies, and all sorts of meal ideas await you at Hopcott Premium Meats, Hofstede’s Country Barn, The Local Harvest Market, Anita’s Organic Mill, Neufeld Farm Market, and Lepp Farm Market.  All of these great businesses are locally-owned and operated, supporting local farmers and food producers all year long.

There are five  Circle Farm Tours guides which provide you with information about your local farms, farm-to-table restaurants, family-owned stores and farm experiences and include road maps and detailed descriptions, as well as downloadable information so you can start exploring!
